Background

MEM Essential & Non-Essential Amino Acids Solution (50X) are indeed playing a substantial role in cell culture. Basically, Essential amino acids cannot be synthesized In Vivo,  thus it is extremely important to supplement the media with those to maintain proper cellular growth and expected viability. On the other hands, mammalian cells can synthesize non-essential amino acids (NEAA) through glutaminolysis, glycolysis, or via TCA cycle.

During low concentration of required amino acids in media, cells need to consume more glucose and glutamine that results unexpected amount of bio degradation products, this , indeed acts as a hindrance in proper cellular growth and maintenance. So, adding supplements of amino acids to media reduces biosynthetic burden on cell in vitro, stimulates growth and prolongs the viability of cells.
