Description
Dulbecco’s Modified Eagle’s Medium (DMEM), High Glucose (4.5 g/L) – PurMa Biologics
Product Description for DMEM Media
Dulbecco’s Modified Eagle’s Medium DMEM high glucose 4.5 g/L is a high‑performance cell culture medium based on the classical Basal Medium Eagle (BME) formulation and optimized for robust, reproducible mammalian cell growth. it is one of the most widely used media in cell biology, molecular biology, and biotechnology applications due to its balanced composition of amino acids, vitamins, and salts. PurMa Biologics has been a major DMEM media supplier for more than 10 years.

High Glucose DMEM for Demanding Cell Lines
PurMa™ Dulbeccos Modified Eagles Medium DMEM is a modified version of Eagle’s Medium (DMEM) that has more glucose (4.5g/L) compared with the old version, which contained 1.0 g/L (1000 mg/L) glucose. PurMa Biologics DMEM culture media is formulated with:
- High glucose: 4.5 g/L – ideal for metabolically active and fast‑growing cell lines
- Optional low glucose variant (1.5 g/L, Cat. P3SO28105) – for cells requiring reduced glucose levels or more physiological conditions
This flexibility allows you to choose the optimal glucose concentration for your specific cell type and experimental design.
Enhanced Nutrient Profile
Compared to the original BME formulation, Dulbecco’s Modified Eagle’s Medium (DMEM) contains approximately fourfold higher concentrations of amino acids and vitamins, making it suitable for a broad range of cell culture applications. PurMa Biologics DMEM supports:
- Primary cultures of mouse and chicken cells
- A wide variety of normal and transformed mammalian cell lines
The enriched nutrient composition ensures reliable cell growth, viability, and productivity in both routine culture and more demanding experimental workflows.
Key Components of PurMa Biologics DMEM
Dulbecco’s Modified Eagle’s Medium DMEM high glucose 4.5 g/L includes:
- High glucose (4.5 g/L)
- L‑glutamine (0.585 g/L) – supports protein synthesis and cell metabolism
- Non‑essential amino acids – reduce the biosynthetic burden on cells
- Phenol red (0.0015 g/L) – colorimetric pH indicator for easy visual monitoring
- Enhanced buffering capacity (3.7 g/L NaHCO₃) – provides stable pH in a CO₂ incubator
All PurMa Biologics classical media products, including our Dulbecco’s Modified Eagle’s Medium (DMEM), are rigorously tested to ensure consistent performance, sterility, and reliability in mammalian cell culture.
DMEM does not contain proteins, lipids, or growth factors, and therefore requires supplementation, typically with 10% Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS) or a suitable serum‑free supplement compatible with your cell type.
Superior Buffering and Culture Stability
The increased sodium bicarbonate content (3.7 g/L NaHCO₃) gives Dulbecco’s Modified Eagle’s Medium (DMEM) significantly improved buffering capacity compared with earlier formulations. This helps maintain:
- Stable pH during extended culture
- Consistent cell morphology and performance
- Reproducible experimental outcomes across batches
Types of DMEM by PurMa Biologics
PurMa Biologics manufactures three optimized forms of Dulbecco’s Modified Eagle’s Medium (DMEM):
- DMEM Standard – reliable, general‑purpose formulation for routine cell culture
- DMEM MAX – enhanced formulation for high‑density cultures and demanding cell lines
- DMEM Advanced – optimized for modern applications such as serum reduction, scaled‑up production, and advanced research workflows
Each DMEM type results from decades of cell culture research and optimization, delivering exceptional cell growth, viability, and lot‑to‑lot consistency for your projects.

FAQ (add as FAQ block for Rank Math schema)
Q1: What is the glucose concentration in Dulbecco’s Modified Eagle’s Medium DMEM high glucose 4.5 g/L?
A1: PurMa Biologics DMEM high glucose contains 4.5 g/L glucose. A low glucose 1.5 g/L version (Cat. P3SO28105) is also available.
Q2: Does this DMEM contain FBS?
A2: No. Dulbecco’s Modified Eagle’s Medium (DMEM) from PurMa Biologics does not contain FBS, proteins, lipids, or growth factors and should be supplemented, typically with 10% FBS or a serum‑free alternative.
Q3: Which cell types are compatible with this Dulbecco’s Modified Eagle’s Medium DMEM high glucose 4.5 g/L?
A3: DMEM is suitable for primary mouse and chicken cells and a wide variety of normal and transformed mammalian cell lines.
Q4: Does this Dulbecco’s Modified Eagle’s Medium DMEM high glucose 4.5 g/L contain L‑glutamine and non‑essential amino acids?
A4: Yes. The high glucose formulation includes L‑glutamine (0.585 g/L) and non‑essential amino acids to support optimal cell growth and metabolism.
Q5: Is the formulation of PurMa™ DMEM different from other formulations?
A5: No. The formulation is the same as Corning liquid classical media products, and the same as Fisher and Gibco. We however have the ATCC formulation as well.
