PurMa™ Antibiotic Mix Solution (High Fungicide 25 μg/ml) (100X)

Generally, four types of pathogens contaminate most of the cell lines. Those, however,  include Bacteria, mold/ yeast, virus as well as mycoplasma. Moreover, when cells divide in media, it carries contamination along to the daughter cells.  Additionally, PurMa™ Antibiotic Mix Solution (High Fungicide 25 μg/ml) (100X) contains Amphotericin B which strongly prevents growing of mold.

Description

PurMa™ Antibiotic Mix Solution 100X

Product Description

Cell culture systems are highly susceptible to microbial contamination, which can alter experimental results, compromise data reliability, and lead to loss of valuable cell lines. Contaminants can enter cultures through reagents, equipment, laboratory personnel, or the environment. Once introduced, these pathogens often proliferate rapidly in nutrient-rich media, making early detection and effective prevention strategies essential. Understanding the main classes of contaminants is critical for implementing robust aseptic techniques and selecting appropriate antimicrobial solutions. PurMa™ Antibiotic Mix Solution is a powerful  fungicide antibiotic antimycotic mix solution. PurMa Biologics manufactures antibiotic mix solution low fungicide as well, please check Here

Moreover, the exact formulation of the mix solution low fungicide µgml can be found here

Generally, four main types of pathogens are responsible for contaminating most cell lines: bacteria, molds/yeasts, viruses, and mycoplasma. Bacterial contamination typically leads to visible turbidity and rapid pH changes, while molds and yeasts may form filaments or colonies visible under the microscope. Viral contamination is often more subtle, frequently going unnoticed until functional changes in the cells are observed. Mycoplasma, one of the most problematic contaminants, lacks a cell wall and is difficult to detect with routine media appearance. Each of these pathogen types can negatively impact cell morphology, metabolism, growth rate, and experimental endpoints.

PurMa Biologics Solution for Mycoplasma Contamination

PurMa™ PCR Detection Kit and PurMa™ Mycoplasma Removal Spray are powerful tools for detecting and preventing/eliminating contamination, respectively. Additionally, if the cells can be purchased commercially or obtaining a mycoplasma free cell line is possible, we strongly recommend discarding the cells and start with a mycoplasma-free cell line. However, the mentioned option is not always possible and precious contaminated cell lines might be saved by our proprietary Mycoplasma Treatment Kit (MTK) (100X).

We strongly recommend you to study our newly published articles about the nature of mycoplasma and how to eradicate these pathogens from your cell culture:

How Contamination Spreads During Cell Division

When cells divide into contaminated media, the pathogens are passively carried along with the daughter cells. This means that even a low-level contamination at an early stage can ultimately spread throughout the entire culture, incubator, and, potentially, other cell lines handled in parallel. Contaminated cultures might still appear macroscopically normal in the early phases, yet subtle changes in growth behavior and gene expression may already be taking place. Over time, this silent spread of contamination can compromise entire projects, making routine screening and the use of preventive reagents essential for long-term culture stability.

PurMa™ Antibiotic Mix Solution and Its Antifungal Activity

PurMa antibiotic mix solution (High Fungicide 25 μg/ml) (100X) is specifically formulated to provide broad-spectrum protection in cell culture systems. A key component of this mix is Amphotericin B, a potent antifungal agent known for its strong activity against molds and yeasts. By targeting fungal cell membranes, Amphotericin B effectively inhibits the growth and spread of mold, thereby protecting cell cultures from one of the most common and damaging forms of contamination. The high fungicide concentration in this 100X solution allows convenient dilution into standard culture media while maintaining effective antifungal coverage.

Benefits of Using PurMa™ Antibiotic Mix in Routine Cell Culture

Incorporating PurMa™ Antibiotic Mix Solution into routine cell culture workflows helps reduce the risk of mold and yeast contamination without the need for frequent replacement of media or reagents. Its Amphotericin B content supports consistent culture conditions, protects valuable cell lines, and enhances the reliability of experimental data. When used alongside proper aseptic techniques and regular contamination monitoring, PurMa™ can significantly improve culture longevity and performance. This combination of preventive strategies contributes to higher reproducibility, better resource utilization, and more robust outcomes in research and production laboratories.

Frequently asked questions

What working concentration should I use for PurMa™ Antibiotic Mix Solution (High Fungicide 25 μg/ml) (100X)?

Most antibiotic mixes are supplied as a 100X stock, giving a 1 in 100 dilution into complete medium. Check the Certificate of Analysis for the specific lot, since concentration varies between formulations.

Should antibiotics be used routinely in cell culture?

Most quality guidance advises against it. Continuous use masks low level contamination, allows poor aseptic technique to go unnoticed, and can select for resistant organisms. They are appropriate for high risk work such as primary tissue rather than as a standing habit.

Will this prevent yeast or fungal contamination?

Not unless it contains an antimycotic. Penicillin and streptomycin act on bacteria only. Preventing fungi or yeast requires amphotericin B or a similar antimycotic, and even then technique matters more than chemistry.

How should PurMa™ Antibiotic Mix Solution (High Fungicide 25 μg/ml) (100X) be stored?

Frozen at minus 20 degrees C and aliquoted on first thaw. Activity declines with repeated freeze and thaw cycles, which shows up as contamination creeping back into cultures that were previously clean.

Is it sterility and endotoxin tested?

Yes. Every lot is filtered and tested, and a Certificate of Analysis is issued per lot and available on request.
