Premium Fetal Bovine Serum (P-FBS)
PurMa Biologics derives Premium Fetal Bovine Serum (P-FBS) from the blood of the bovine fetus. Cell culture laboratories use FBS for growing eukaryotic especially mammalian cells. FBS contains undefined nutrition, growth factors as well. Therefore, it remains a wildly used supplement for cell culture. Background
Premium Fetal Bovine Serum (P-FBS) is derived from the blood of the bovine fetus. Cell culture laboratories use FBS for growing eukaryotic especially mammalian cells. FBS contains undefined nutrition, growth factors as well. Therefore, it remains a wildly used supplement for cell culture. PurMa Biologics has developed and processes three main premium fetal bovine serums, each specialized for certain requirements in tissue culture.
Our Serum Products
PurMa Biologics produces seven types of fetal bovine serums. The three following are considered premium:
- PurMaTM Premium Fetal Bovine Serum (P-FBS).
- PurMaTM Ultra-Premium Fetal Bovine Serum (UP-FBS).
- PurMaTM Endotoxin Depleted Fetal Bovine Serum (EDP-FBS).
PurMaTM Premium FBS
- All three PurMaTM Premium FBS are of USA origin.
- Have been gamma irradiated,
- Have been heat inactivated.
- have been vigorously analyzed with the certificate of analysis.
The major differences between P-FBS and UP-FBS

Content of PurMaTM Premium Fetal Bovine Serum (P-FBS)
Over the years, we have tested and analyzed PurMaTM Premium Fetal Bovine Serum (P-FBS). Please see the below table. We routinely test every Lots order. We seriously look at the following criteria: IgG, Total Protein, Iron, Percent Iron Saturation, Inorganic Phosphorus, Glucose, Alkaline Phosphatase, Potassium, Albumin, Blood Urea Nitrogen, Sodium, Calcium, Chloride, Total Bilirubin, Creatinine, Gamma Globulin, , Lactate Dehydrogenase, TIBC, SGOT, SGPT.
PurMa Biologics Performs Deep Analysis
Evaluated parameters helps with the adjusting various elements , and as a result , the consistency of analysis among various Lots will highly improve.

Review: I started my lab using the regular Gibco media components. We have shifted to Purma past 6 months and see no difference in the quality of our cell culture. Simply saying that Purma is cheaper, quicker to deliver and as good as Gibco. The best part was that Purma customized several media for our fish cell lines which was really helpful. Lastly, Seif walked through the customization of media over Zoom, that gave a lot of confidence for using those media solutions.
