PurMa Biologics offers Prokaryotic Cell Culture Suited Antibiotics. Altogether, this collection of antibiotics prevents contamination in the most common Prokaryote cells. To keep these cells free of contamination, antibiotics should mostly function as aminoglycosides and target the cell wall. What working concentration should I use for Prokaryotic Cell Culture Suited Antibiotics?
Most antibiotic mixes are supplied as a 100X stock, giving a 1 in 100 dilution into complete medium. Check the Certificate of Analysis for the specific lot, since concentration varies between formulations.
Should antibiotics be used routinely in cell culture?
Most quality guidance advises against it. Continuous use masks low level contamination, allows poor aseptic technique to go unnoticed, and can select for resistant organisms. They are appropriate for high risk work such as primary tissue rather than as a standing habit.
Will this prevent yeast or fungal contamination?
Not unless it contains an antimycotic. Penicillin and streptomycin act on bacteria only. Preventing fungi or yeast requires amphotericin B or a similar antimycotic, and even then technique matters more than chemistry.
How should Prokaryotic Cell Culture Suited Antibiotics be stored?
Frozen at minus 20 degrees C and aliquoted on first thaw. Activity declines with repeated freeze and thaw cycles, which shows up as contamination creeping back into cultures that were previously clean.
Is it sterility and endotoxin tested?
Yes. Every lot is filtered and tested, and a Certificate of Analysis is issued per lot and available on request.
