Description
PurMa™ RPMI-1640 Cell Culture Medium – High‑Consistency Mammalian Cell Culture Media
Product Description
PurMa™ RPMI 1640 medium is a high-performance cell culture formulation optimized for mammalian cells, including tumor and suspension lines. Originally developed in 1967 at Roswell Park Memorial Institute, RPMI-1640 is now a standard medium for suspension and tumor cells. Our optimized PurMa™ RPMI-1640 cell culture medium builds on this classic formulation to support robust proliferation and high experimental reproducibility. RPMI 1640 was originally developed to culture human cells.
Not sure whether DMEM or RPMI 1640 is right for your cell line? See our comparison guide.
PurMa™ RPMI-1640 cell culture medium contains elevated phosphate levels that support tumor cells relying on glycolysis as their main energy source. This makes it especially suitable for cell aggregates and cancer research applications. The medium has a higher pH of approximately 7.6, and includes biotin, vitamin B12, and PABA, along with high concentrations of inositol and choline. These components help maintain healthy cell metabolism and stable long‑term cultures.
We manufacture PurMa™ RPMI-1640 cell culture medium using 99% pure amino acids and strict quality controls. Our production is based on more than 30 years of experience in cutting‑edge cell and tissue culture science. PurMa Biologics routinely produces over 1500 media formulations, ensuring deep expertise in nutrient balance, sterility, and performance. This high level of purity and process control translates into superior consistency between batches and more comparable results between laboratories.
PurMa™ RPMI-1640 cell culture medium is successfully used for culturing human normal and neoplastic leukocytes, HeLa, Jurkat, MCF‑7, PC12, PBMC, astrocytes, carcinomas, bone marrow, and hybridoma cells. Whether you work in oncology, immunology, neuroscience, or bioproduction, this medium provides a reliable platform for routine culture, assay development, and advanced research.
Considering its quality and performance, PurMa™ RPMI-1640 cell culture medium is offered at an extremely reasonable price point. It is an excellent choice for laboratories that need consistent, high‑quality cell culture media without compromising their budget.
FAQs
Q1. What is PurMa™ RPMI-1640 cell culture medium used for?
PurMa RPMI-1640 cell culture medium is used for culturing human normal and neoplastic leukocytes, as well as many common cell lines. Typical applications include HeLa, Jurkat, MCF‑7, PC12, PBMC, astrocytes, carcinomas, bone marrow, and hybridoma cells. It is widely used in cancer research, immunology, and general mammalian cell biology.
Q2. How is PurMa™ RPMI-1640 different from other cell culture media?
PurMa RPMI-1640 cell culture medium has a higher pH of around 8 and contains elevated phosphate levels that support glycolysis‑dependent tumor cells. It also includes biotin, vitamin B12, and PABA, plus high concentrations of inositol and choline. These features distinguish it from other standard media and make it especially suitable for tumor and suspension cultures.
Q3. Why should I choose PurMa RPMI-1640 over standard RPMI-1640?
PurMa™ RPMI-1640 cell culture medium is manufactured with 99% pure amino acids and strict quality controls. Our 30 years of experience and production of more than 1500 media formulations ensure excellent batch‑to‑batch consistency. This leads to more reliable data, closer alignment between experiments, and better comparability with results from other laboratories.
Q4. Which cell types grow best in PurMa™ RPMI-1640 cell culture medium?
PurMa RPMI-1640 cell culture medium is ideal for leukocytes, hybridomas, and many tumor and suspension cell lines. It performs particularly well with HeLa, Jurkat, MCF‑7, PC12, PBMC, astrocytes, carcinomas, and bone marrow cultures. Always confirm compatibility with your specific cell line and adapt supplements as needed.
Q5. Does PurMa™ RPMI-1640 contain amino acids, vitamins, and other nutrients?
Yes. PurMa RPMI-1640 cell culture medium contains a balanced mixture of amino acids, vitamins, and inorganic salts. In addition to its high phosphate level, it includes biotin, vitamin B12, PABA, inositol, and choline in high concentrations. These components help support stable growth and maintain healthy cell metabolism.
Q6. Where can I find the full formulation of PurMa™ RPMI-1640 cell culture medium?
The complete formulation of PurMa RPMI-1640 cell culture medium is available on our website. Please refer to the RPMI-1640 Formulation section on this product page or follow the provided formulation link to see the full list of components and their concentrations.
Formulation
Formulation: Complete formulation is here: RPMI-1640 Formulation
The Standard formulation of PurMa™ RPMI-1640 is identical to Thermofisher, Gibco RPMI 1640 medium and slightly different than ATCC formulation. PurMa Biologics, however, manufactures the ATCC RPMI1640 routinely.
